Biking to Hope

A few weekends ago the Voigt ladies took on another biking adventure! We originally planned on parking in Portage and biking the 50 miles to Hope and back the next day. Unfortunately, due to rain and wind, we had to alter our plans and we drove all the way to Hope instead – with a nice stop at Jack Sprat for lunch in Girdwood. From Hope we biked out to the Seward Hwy and back in the pouring rain. Although it was only a little over 20 miles, it felt like 40 with the rain and wind. We were soaked from head to toe 5 miles in.
We stayed at the Bowman’s Bear Creek Lodge – great dinner (included with the price), but the cabin was definitely rustic. You can’t expect more than a dry cabin in Hope. That evening I was able to expore Hope for the first time – ending up at the Seaview Bar to enjoy a drive and live music. The next day we were able to do some biking in the sun, which made up for all the rain. It’s really a beautiful ride from the Seward Hwy to Hope.

I can’t believe after living in Alaska for so long there are still so many places I have yet to visit. That just tells you how large Alaska really is!

Here are some photos that we took on our adventure. Enjoy!
